ICAR-National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources (NBFGR), Lucknow, in collaboration with ICAR-KVK Dimapur,
Nagaland, organized an awareness-cum-input distribution programme on 24/01/2025. The event, part of the ICAR-NEH component, focused on promoting aquaculture
and improving the livelihoods of fishermen in the hill regions of North-east India.
Dr. U.K. Sarkar, Director of ICAR-NBFGR, was the Chief Guest and emphasized the importance of aquaculture as a
growing sector for livelihood enhancement in the region. He highlighted the NBFGR’s achievements, including captive breeding programs designed to ensure fish species
survival and promote sustainable aquaculture practices.
The programme featured an interactive technical session for the beneficiaries, providing insights on overcoming aquaculture
challenges and conserving endemic fish species in the region’s unique environment. Key inputs such as high-quality fish seeds, feed, and cast nets were distributed to support
the aqua farmers. Participants were also introduced to the ReportFishDisease app to enable timely disease reporting.
Short speeches were delivered by notable dignitaries at the event included Shri Lotimenba, Additional Director of Fisheries,
Nagaland; Dr. I. Shakuntala Devi, Dean of College of Veterinary Science, CAU; and Dr. Homeswar Kalita, Head of ICAR Nagaland.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. Phool Kumari, Senior Scientist cum Head, KVK Dimapur, who expressed appreciation
to all participants and organizers for their valuable contributions.
KVK Dimapur staff, including Dr. Bendangla Imsong CTO, Plant Breeding, Dr. Chingakham Sima Chanu, SMS, Home Science, Mr. Gulshan Kumar,
SMS, Fruit Science and Dr Moanaro, played a vital role in ensuring the success of the event.
A total of 250 farmers, along with officials from agri and allied departments and also staff of the ICAR Regional Centre, Nagaland, took part in the program.
